Excelsior: The State Coordinating Committee of Education Workers of Guerrero (CETEG) announced a pause in their demonstrations until May 1, following the violent events on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, arrest warrants for vandalism were issued by the state against both CETEG general secretary, Gonzalo Juárez Ocampo and Minervino Morán, after a march in the state capital, Chilpancingo [in which several political party headquarters were sacked and one burned].
In a telephone interview, Juárez Ocampo denied the charges against him and argued the reasons for the teachers' outrage. They were angered by the refusal to resolve their demands contained in the reform proposal that they developed for the State Education Law.
"Mass actions are suspended...
"We will remain in Chilpancingo, sitting-in here until the first of May. We will devote these days to dialogue. There will be no demonstrations of discontent, there will be no demonstrations.
"We won't have them because we are making an assessment, redirecting the movement. We have a commitment to education and for this reason, we are making this pause," declared the leader of the dissident teachers.Spanish original
