On Sunday the Attorney General's Office (PGR) and the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (IGIE [from Inter-American Commission on Human Rights]) announced the start of work related to the new expert study of residuals from the fire at Cocula, Guerrero, linked to the case of the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students.
The group of international experts and Mexican experts—of recognized academic and professional standing—will analyze the environment at the Cocula Municipal Garbage Dump and issue a new determination.
In a statement, the PGR explained that, according to the agreement signed on October 20, 2015, between the PGR and the IGIE, ''the new study will include the following considerations:
- ''That the objectives and conditions for carrying out the expert study be mutually established;
- ''That the decision regarding profiles and final choice of experts be made jointly;
- ''That how the study is to be conducted will be established by consensus."
The statement added that the new study will analyze [for the third time] the ''fire event'' at the Cocula Municipal Garbage Dump:
''All the evidence by various experts and authorities found in the legal case file will be submitted for consideration by these experts. It will be analyzed and confirmed before [this group] issues its own report."
The PGR insisted that this independent expert evaluation is being undertaken at the proposal of the PGR itself and relates to one of the investigative lines for the Iguala case, which occurred on September 26-27, 2014. Finally, the PGR emphasized:
''It is important to note that other work and investigations will continue in parallel with the goal of getting to the bottom of the events and arresting all those responsible.''
