Salvador Molina Navarro, who identified himself as a legal advisor to José Manuel Mireles, former leader of self-defense groups in Michoacán, announced that in recent days a Federal Court upheld the detention order against the physician, who will have to remain in prison and face criminal proceedings for his presumed role in crimes against health [i.e., involving drugs] and bearing of arms for the exclusive use of the Mexican Army. The attorney added that Mireles will be able to file a petition for review before a Collegiate Circuit Court. ...
Salvador Molina Navarro and Talía Vázquez Alatorre were the first lawyers who led the criminal defense of Mireles, after his arrest on June 27, 2014, in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, but on November 20, 2014, the lawyers reported on social networks that they were renouncing their client's legal defense, because, allegedly, he had accepted a political pact with the federal government in exchange for his release.
Arrested in 2014, Mireles charged with possessing a pistol, an assault rifle, four bundles containing marijuana and one of cocaine.
April 7, 2015: The First Unitary Circuit Court granted Mireles and his bodyguards Javier Magaña Reyes, Gerardo Lopez and Salvador Mendoza Garcia Casillas the amparo [injunction] for the purpose of reviewing if they were to continue under judicial proceeding for crimes against health and bearing of arms for the exclusive Army use.
July 3, 2015: The Office of the Attorney General (PGR) withdrew the challenge that they had filed against the amparo [injunction] granted to Mireles and his bodyguards on April 7 by the First Unitary Court of Michoacán. ...
