Mexico Secretariat of Government Relations Centralizes Control of Information within Agency

La Jornada: Gustavo Castillo García

The Secretariat of Government Relations (SG) banned all bodies and institutions under their control from giving information, interviews or disseminating press releases, unless they are authorized by the Secretary, Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, or the Under Secretary of Media Regulations, Eduardo Sanchez Hernandez, officials of the National Security Commission revealed (CNS).

The measure includes all decentralized agencies such as the Federal Police, the CNS itself, the National Council for Prevention of Disasters, the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence against Women and the technical secretariat of the Coordinating Council for the Implementation of the Criminal Justice System, among others.

The officials consulted reported that the measure has not been extended to institutions such as the Secretaries of the Navy (SEMAR) and National Defense (SEDENA, [Army]), or to the Attorney General's Office (PGR), but they indicated that the instruction could expand, as the under-secretary, Eduardo Sanchez, was appointed spokesman for the security cabinet.

In this role, the under-secretary is responsible for coordinating the public media strategy with federal agencies involved in the field of public and national security. These include the Center for Investigation and National Security [CISEN], the National Migration Institute, the Center for Production of Special Informational Programs, [among others].... Spanish original
