Mexico: One Guerrero Community Police Group Charges Another With "Aggression and Treachery"

La Jornada: Rosa Rojas

The Regional Coordinator of Community Authorities (CRAC) and the executive committee of the Community Police of Costa Chica and La Montaña of Guerrero convened an urgent assembly on Saturday [June 1, 2013] to address actions of "aggression and treachery" promoted against the community justice system by leaders of the Union of Peoples and Organizations of the State of Guerrero (UPOEG), which is led by the brothers Cirino and Bruno Plácido Valerio.

UPOEG Meets in San Luis Acatlán

The UPOEG heads the movement of self-defense brigades--armed and hooded--that emerged in January in the Costa Chica when Bruno Plácido negotiated with the Governor of Guerrero and the federal Secretariat of Government Affairs [SEGOB] for its recognition. The UPOEG called a meeting for Sunday [June 2, 2013] in the community auditorium of San Luis Acatlán, about which the CRAC warned,
"they are trying to ignore this regional authority of the people and promote its integration into the self-defense groups of the UPOEG."
CRAC-PC Issues Communique

In a statement, the CRAC asserted that the UPOEG has attempted such maneuvers since the creation of the self-defense groups last January, and it seeks to make accusations against the CRAC community system and to put CRAC at the disposition of the government,
"as they have done with their own self-defense groups, thus betraying the interests of the peoples and the communities".
The statement emphasized that the CRAC-PC at all times has denounced these actions of "betrayal", indicating that
"behind this movement are the hands of the government and the business entrepreneurs, who are seeking to generate conflict in our region so they can easily get to and plunder our natural mineral resources. Those who lend themselves to these dirty actions are traitors to the people and seek only to secure their own interests."
It became known that one of the proposals that emerged from yesterday's assembly is to leave a guard at the House of Justice of San Luis Acatlán to prevent what happened a few months ago, that people related to the UPOEG might seize those facilities.

The CRAC-PC called on the general population and the authorities of the communities who are planning to attend today's assembly ... not to be surprised by the [UPOEG's] "bad leaders".

[The CRAC-PC] said that the faults, deficiencies and even irregularities that occur in its community system are corrected by analysis and discussion in the Regional Assembly, which is the highest authority. It also called on the civil and agrarian communities to use the Assembly to participate, to ask, to question and to make proposals for improving their community system.

[The CRAC-PC] called on all the Municipal and Ejidal and Community Commissioners, Regional and Local Counselors, Community Police Officers and the general public to be alert to these provocations and attacks on their community system, and it warned that the CRAC-PC will not allow any more aggression, and it will fight to preserve their historical project.
