The secretary general of the PRD [Party of the Democratic Revolution], Alejandro Sánchez Camacho, called for creation of a National Front in Defense of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) to prevent its privatization. On tour in Veracruz, the PRD member also regretted the flattering and loyal attitude of the chairman of the executive committee of the Senate, Ernesto Cordero, toward Enrique Peña Nieto, to whom he stated that if the energy reform involves constitutional changes, the PAN [National Action Party] will support him.
Sánchez Camacho said that together with society, the PRD will take to the streets to express our discontent. The privatization of Pemex will not be easy, he warned.
For his part, Carlos Sotelo, the national coordinator of the PRD faction known as Social Democracy, pointed out that the party leadership must call for creation of the front in defense of the oil industry, in which undoubtedly Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas and Andrés Manuel López Obrador must participate as key leaders of causes in defense of the homeland.
