Mexico Government Reaches Agreement With Mothers of Young Women Disappeared in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua

Milenio: Lorena López

Mexico City - The Secretariat of Government Affairs [SEGOB] reported that an agreement has been reached with the mothers of disappeared young women in Chihuahua so they will withdraw their encampment in front of SEGOB headquarters. The agreement includes overseeing the increase of the reward offered to those who provide useful information for locating a person.

In a statement, SEGOB reported a commitment to follow up on the cases.

SEGOB also accepted hiring international experts for forensic identification and to facilitate bureaucratic procedures, including giving access to information to families of disappeared persons.

Another of the commitments is "to make representations before the Rewards Committee of the PGR [Attorney General's Office] to raise the amounts set there in order to encourage citizen collaboration in the search for people"; and to meet with Chihuahua authorities so they might present to SEGOB their reports regarding the status of investigations under their care.
