Mexico City - Members of the National Union of Workers (UNT), including the Mexican Electricians Union (SME), Alliance of Tramway Workers and the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers [CNTE] launched a demonstration to commemorate Labor Day and to reject implementation of structural reforms in labor, education, fiscal matters and energy.

The contingents are made up of members of the Electricians' Union, United Workers, University Unions and various labor organizations, while the dissident teachers are marching in the central lanes of Paseo de la Reforma [major boulevard].

Teachers from Oaxaca, Michoacán and Mexico City will participate in the rally called by the organizers for the Zócalo [Mexico City's main square].

Hundreds of police are guarding hotels, businesses and government agencies located on Paseo de la Reforma. According to organizers, the contingents will march from the Angel of Independence to the Zócalo, where they will hold a rally.

The protesters' route is planned along Paseo de la Reforma to Avenida Juárez, which is also protected by police officers and by metal fences placed in front of shops and buildings. Spanish original
