The activity occurred prior to the negotiating session scheduled for this afternoon between the leadership of the State Coordinating Committee of Education Workers Guerrero (CETEG) and local representatives of the congressional faction of the PRD, to detail the proposed initiative to amend the State Education Law developed on Thursday night.
With sticks in hand, the protesters stationed themselves at the entrances of department stores and self-service stores in this city, maintaining that the constitutional reforms [regarding labor and education]
"are not for the benefit of the people but of the big multinationals."The warning issued by the leadership of the CETEG and community police that have joined the movement is that they will not cease in their protest actions until they achieve significant progress regarding reform of the State Education Law in order to reverse the effects of the constitutional reform in education.
On Thursday, Gov. Ángel Aguirre Rivero said he would not negotiate with the protesters under pressure or threats and the intransigence of the teachers, and he asked that the law and a peaceful attitude be given priority.
"Yesterday I said that I did not agree with the attitude taken by a group of about 40 community police officers who came from Acatempa, in the municipality of Tixtla, and later their coordinator himself acknowledged that their action was a complete departure from the spirit of community policing," said the governor. This was in reference to the members of the Community Police who participated in the mega-march carried out Wednesday in Chilpancingo by the CETEG teachers supported by civic organizations and students.
