Mexico: Michoacan Teachers College Students Release Seized Vehicles, Seek Dialogue with Government

Michoacán • The 12 vehicles retained by students of the Vasco de Quiroga Rural Normal School [teachers college] in Tiripetío were released in order to avoid a clash with police.

Marco Zetina, a spokesman for the stundent, said that seven buses belonging to the Purepecha line as well as three tractor trailers and two trucks where released in order to open a dialogue and avoid a confrontation.

The student leader said that they will meet with representatives of the state government on Wednesday to seek an agreement, but did not rule out further actions.

Moreover, he specified that the students of the Normal School in Tiripetío did not demonstrated in the Michoacan capital of Morelia on Saturday, and that the normal schools that are in Morelia are responsible for the mobilization this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Marco Zetina said they spoke with representatives of the Purepecha bus line, so they have ruled out criminal charges against the students. Spanish original
