Aristegui Noticias: The Governor of Guerrero, Ángel Aguirre Rivero, confirmed that he has prepared seventeen arrest warrants against members of the State Coordinating Committee of Education Workers in Guerrero (CETEG) for damage to public buildings and blocking passage on federal highways.
Aguirre Rivero warned that his government will not allow the children of Guerrero to be affected by the work stoppage and demonstrations by members of the CETEG, a dissident organization within the SNTE [National Union of Education Workers] and called on them to return to school no later than next Monday [when the Easter vacation ends]. He said that from that date
"we cannot permit that a single child in Guerrero continues to lose classes. That was a commitment that they [the teachers] also made and signed," he said. The governor reiterated that dialogue with the teachers is still open, although he called on them to behave with prudence and respect for the law, and to take up regular channels and establish a joint plan to resolve the differences.
On Thursday, nearly 1,500 dissident teachers blocked the Highway to the Sun to protest the education reform. Also, on Wednesday, they threw stones and sticks at the state Congress headquarters, where they broke windows, after lawmakers had rejected their counter-proposal on the issues. Spanish original
