Chilpancingo, Guerrero • At 3:05 PM an advanced contingent of Guerrero teachers arrived at the state Congress, forced open some doors with axes, pipes and sticks, then broke the glass of the entrance that leads to the session chamber.
Although the parliamentary factions of the PRI, PVEM [Green Party], PAN and PANAL [New Alliance] had agreed to sign the bill [proposed by PRD and] presented by the Committees for Education and Budget, the leadership of the State Coordinating Committee of Guerrero State Workers decided to go to Congress to put pressure on the elected representatives.
The first to arrive were men carrying sticks, pipes, axes and rods, which they used to force open the central gate, and from there move into the Benito Juarez plaza, which leads to the congressional hall, which they attacked, throwing stones against the windows, which were destroyed within minutes.
With axes and tubes they attacked the metal door that allows access to the library, 'Servant of the Nation'. After several charges, they subsided and withdrew at the request of their leaders, arguing that they would conduct a massive siege of the premises.
Some teachers were carrying slingshots and used them to launch rocks into the interior of the building, despite the presence of workers and reporters.
At 3:30 the charges stopped and teachers installed a circle around the Congress, shouting that they would wait for the session in which the bill presenting their proposals for a local educational reform is to be presented.
When teachers arrived at the building housing the legislature, members of the PRI, PVEM, PAN PANAL parties had not yet arrived. Spanish original
