Mexico: Business Leaders in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, Support Dissident Teachers

Milenio: Rogelio Agustín Esteban

Chilpancingo, Guerrero • Business representatives of Chilpancingo expressed their support of the teacher movement challenging the federal Education Reform, and they called on the state government to find an immediate solution to the conflict.

At a press conference, Pioquinto Damián Huato, former leader of the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) in Chilpancingo, Lorenzo Leonardo Arroyo, director of the city's restaurateurs and Rigoberto Payan Mejia, head of the Association of Hoteliers of Chilpancingo expressed their support of the actions taken by the State Coordinator of Education Workers of Guerrero (CETEG).

They regretted the posture announced over the weekend by the Employers Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex), in the sense of calling for implementation of extramural classes.

They indicated that the Education Reform has positive aspects,
"but it is also a violation of the constitutional rights of the teaching profession, in addition to being confusing and contradictory".
Therefore, they said they will be watching the course taken by the movement, in order to approach the teachers and discuss how they can confirm their support. Spanish original
