Cuautepec, Guerrero • On Sunday, 80 new community police from thirty villages, without experience, without weapons and without masks, became part of the public force to provide security to the residents of the municipality of Cuautepec in the Costa Chica [Little Coast] region.

During an event attended by people from the municipality, municipal commissioners, ejido [communal land] commissioners, aldermen and the 80 members of the Community Police, the mayor, Archimedes Quintero Diaz, endorsed with his presence citizen participation in security.

Quintero Diaz told the more than 500 people who attended the event that he has the firm commitment to support the new community police officers with vehicles and resources.
"We know who is charging protection payments; we know who is stealing cattle, and I'm not afraid to commit to delivering a pickup truck and some resources to the community police officers," said the PRD mayor, justifying the financial support that he will provide to the self-defense forces.
Meanwhile the PRD alderwoman,Yesenia Orozco, manifested her disagreement, saying that in the formation of the community police in Cuautepec, not all the inhabitants of the communities had been consulted and she demanded that assemblies be held to designate the members of the civilian self-defense forces.

The commander "Ernesto", who also attended, told those who joined the security forces all the conditions [for their participation] and that many people would benefit from the self-defense movement.
"No rats will be appointed; the worst scum want to be cops. From this moment, we tell them that we will punish the police who abuse or prostitute themselves .
"And beginning now, I say that the issue has been discussed extensively and you have to act without weapons, vehicles or experience, but we're going to support to you," he said, while wearing a mask over his face.
He insisted that they have to be cautious but not show fear, because they have to confront organized crime following the rule of 10 to 1:
"If they fuck one of us, we'll fuck ten of them. If they snatch one of us, we'll snatch ten of them," he said.
Finally it was noted that the municipalities that have already formed community police are Ayutla, San Marcos, Cuautepec, Copala, Tecoanapa and Cruz Grande. Spanish original
