Mexico Human Rights Complaints Grow 71% in 3 Years
La Jornada: Despite advances in civil liberties, in the last 35 months the number of complaints filed with the Mexico National Commission of Human Rights (CNDH) has increased by 71 percent, said the head of the agency, Raul Plascencia Villanueva. During a hearing of the Human Rights Committee of the Mexican Senate, the ombudsman expressed concern that there are still public servants who ignore the recommendations issued by the CNDH. Such behavior, said Plascencia, not only seriously injures victims of the abuses and excesses of authority, but also the whole society, and means that Mexico is still far from being a nation where rights are fully exercised.
