Mexico Post-Election: López Obrador Announces Action Plan

Milenio:  Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the presidential candidate for the leftist parties, announced a 'National Plan for the Defense of Democracy and Dignity', which seeks to gather more evidence [of election fraud] and to inform people regarding how the PRI operated in buying and coercing votes for the triumph of Enrique Peña Nieto.

At a press conference, the coordinator of Legal Affairs for López Obrador, Jaime Cardenas, said the objectives of this plan are to:

1. Inform the people of Mexico on the way Peña Nieto and PRI operated;

2. Gain the participation of citizens to gather more information on the control of votes;

3. Give to the Electoral Tribunal of Judicial Power of the Federation evidence to support a judgment regarding [lack of ] impartiality;

4. Raise awareness among citizens that if the imposition of Peña Nieto is allowed, Mexico's destiny will be one of corruption and pain.

He explained that the plan of action is based on two premises:
"The presidency of Mexico is not purchased and the fate of Mexico has no price."
"We want to know how the PRI bought five million votes, more cards from Soriana and Monex, illegal use of governments and money laundering," he said.
He also said that the campaign will start by using banners, billboards, wall signs and brigades of citizens who will go "door to door to raise awareness."

... On Monday, they will present to the IFE [Federal Election Institute] the messages they will spread through the media and that will be placed on the Internet.

... He also noted that there will be different creative activities to demonstrate the damage that anti-democracy causes in the country. Among these, there will be an invitation to an essay competition, which will be on different topics, such as vote buying, increasing voter turnout, why people voted for Enrique Peña Nieto and the money spent in the presidential election. There will also be a competition for film documentaries and music, murals, painting, dance, theater and poetry. A number of celebrities have volunteered to carry out these programs.
..."We want a democracy in which everyone has the same value ... we want a real rule of law, building our development on foundations of dignity and law," [López Obrador] said. Spanish original
